Dr. Juan Gonzalez is a surgeon and has been practicing for over 30 years. He trained at Jersey City Medical Center as a chief resident and received his medical degree from the Universidad Central Del Este in the Dominican Republic. Dr. Gonzalez donates one week of his time each year, and all of his skills, to underserved populations in the Dominican Republic through the medical mission group Guardians of Healing and with the support of Surgical Specialists of North Jersey. He has been an active member of this group for over a decade. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his 4 grandchildren. He was born in Cuba, grew up in Union City, NJ, attended Union City High School and is proud to serve his community. Dr. Gonzalez was enlisted in the United States Navy and currently is a northern NJ resident. He speaks English and Spanish.
Dr. German Costa is a board certified surgeon. He trained at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) Hospital as a chief resident and received his medical degree from Rutgers University (formerly UMDNJ). He has been part of the group since 2002. Dr. German Costa is involved with training surgical residents at Palisades Medical Center And Hoboken University Medical Center. In his free time, he likes to visit Walt Disney World with his family. He was born in Argentina, grew up in North Bergen, NJ and attended North Bergen High School. He is currently a northern NJ resident. He speaks English and Spanish.
Dr. Igor Kofman is a board certified surgeon. He trained at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ as a chief resident and received his medical degree from St. George University in Grenada. He has been a part of the group since 2014. Dr. Igor Kofman is involved with training surgical residents at Palisades Medical Center and Hoboken University Medical Center. In his free time he enjoys many outdoor activities. He was born and raised in Russia until he was a teenager and attended James Madison High School in Brooklyn, NY. He is currently a Brooklyn, NY resident. He speaks English, Russian, and Spanish.
Javier Gómez, DO, is a general surgeon with a primary focus on robotic surgery, minimally invasive procedures, and acute care surgery involving organs of the abdomen and gastrointestinal tract, which include the stomach, small and large intestine, spleen and appendix. Dr. Gomez also specializes in biliary surgery – the gallbladder and bile ducts – and hernia repair, both routine groin hernia and complex abdominal wall construction.
Dr. Gomez earned his medical degree from Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine, Stratford, NJ. He completed his internship and surgical residency program at Carepoint Health's affiliate hospitals, where he was Chief Resident in 2020. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Surgeons and the American Osteopathic Association. He holds certifications in the Da Vinci Robotic System.
Michelle Diaz PA-C is a certified Physician Assistant. She has been a PA since 2014 and initially started her PA career in emergency medicine before switching over to general surgery. She is also a registered dietitian since 2007. She did her PA training at Rutgers University (formerly known as UMDNJ) and has been a part of the group since 2018. Michelle enjoys participating in medical missions since 2010 with the Guardians of Healing and traveling. She was born in NJ, grew up in Jersey City and attended McNair Academic High School. She currently lives in northern NJ. She speaks English and Spanish.
